This isn't the kind of band Out: life that needed changing, because I wanted to be in this band. Q: What was your favourite Megadeth album apart from "The World Needs a Hero"? Cut 2: In: Al: Rust would probably be my favourite Out: This is ferocious, this is real, this is great. Q: What was your reaction when you got the call to fly out and join the band? Were you excited or wary? Cut 3: In: Al: Neither. It was, OK, I've been in this situation before Out: So I was scared to death. Q: Dave Mustaine, had you decided after touring with Al that he should be a permanent member? Cut 4: In: Dave: I think that kinda happened Out: And someone does something like that, and it's fun, you know. Q: When did you start thinking about new album? Cut 5: In: Dave: The day we get onstage on the first day of the tour Out: not the second third of it, you know. Q: Is it difficult for a band who've been as considerably successful as you have to make the many changes, business-wise and musically that you've just made? Cut 6: In: Dave: I don't know what you mean by considerable success Out: It's a partnership and we have a common goal. Q: You came to the end of your contact with Capitol with Risk. Was it time to move on? Cut 7: In: Dave: When we made the record I looked on it Out: I said: "Whatever. I just wanted to get away." Q: Were Sanctuary the obvious choice? Cut 8: In: Dave: It was an obvious choice, but also Out: this project is very flattering. Q: You've produced this album. Why? Cut 9: In: Dave: Because I could influence the producer Out: in a catalogue of a great band. Q: Do you find it easy being Megadeth's producer? Cut 10: In: Dave: I know how to provoke these guys Out: I don't think anybody can touch him. Q: Al, what was it like working with Dave as a producer? Cut 11: In: Al: Well, he immediately told me Out: It was controlled improvisation. Q: There seems to be an edge to this album that been missing recently. Cut 12: In: Dave: I think that's very, very accurate Out: And I go, "Oh, OK." So... Q: The album's called "The World Needs a Hero", so who are your heroes? Starting with you Dave. Cut 13: In: Dave: It depends. There's all kinds Out: and movie heroes, Clint Eastwood. Q: What about musical heroes? Cut 14: In: Dave: Musical heroes, it would have to be Out: my godfather Alice Cooper. Q: Why do those three stand out? Cut 15: In: Dave: I think Jimmy because Out: I thought it was just so cool. Q: Al, what about you? Cut 16: In: Al: I think the list is probably pretty close Out: and subsequently my sister and myself. Q: What gives you a bigger buzz: making an album or playing live? Cut 17: In: Dave: I don't know. I think that's Out: you can always do a solo. Q: How long would you expect to be on tour? Cut 18: In: Dave: I'd like to think it would be 18 months Out: and do the United States. Q: If you were to meet the Dave Mustaine of 1984, what advice would you give him? Cut 19: In: Dave: The only thing that I would Out: version of a taxi. Q: What ambitions do you both have left in relation to the band? Cut 20: In: Dave: I would like to watch out Out: and see what takes place. Al: To have this conversation with you in ten years about the last ten years I've been in Megadeth.
