I love the first trio, and do not understand why it is not performed or recorded much more often. The first movement particularly is possibly the finest demonstration in the realm of chamber music of the possibilities of the simultaneously lean and lush sound of one violin combining with one cello. The Trio Fontenay provide the best performance I have yet heard of this music, with pianist Hardin notable for better control of his dynamics than I have heard elsewhere.
