Coming from the Milan area, Alphataurus are an Italian hard rock/progressive rock band that only released one album, Alphataurus, in 1973, at the peak of the European progressive rock wave. The five compositions were well arranged and well played, but were not enough to keep the band on the stage in the following years, so the band split during the recording of the second album. Some tracks from a second album were finally released in 1992 on the record Dietro l'uragano. The first album had a second life with good sales later, and it is still selling today. In the year 2010, two from the original line up, Guido Wassermann and Pietro Pellegrini, decided it was the time to return to the scene, and formed a new band with the same name, Alphataurus, to record a new album including both revised tunes from the second album and brand new tunes. The original drummer Giorgio Santandrea also joined the new band, and in November 2010 they officially had the reunion after over 30 years, playing at the Progvention 2010 in Milan. A live album from the reunion concert will be released in late 2011, while in the same period Giorgio Santandrea left the band due to personal reasons. The new drummer is now Alessandro Pacho Rossi, and old friend of bassist Fabio Rigamonti. A new studio album will be released in early 2012. A dramatic Italian rock band, readily bearing comparison to an unholy collision of Uriah Heep and Van Der Graaf Generator, Alphataurus emerged from the city of Genoa during 1971 and released their self-titled debut album the following year, on their own Magma label. Highly prized by European prog aficionados, Alphataurus is as remarkable for its sleeve - an anti-war themed triple gatefold - as for its contents, a dramatic soundscape comprised of just five songs, but a multitude of moods and textures.
