Bent´s fourth album, INTERCEPT!, kicks off with what seems like a traditional track for them: upbeat, peppy, with just a little bit of cheekiness. But "To Be Loved" shows this album going in a decidedly different direction, blending Bent´s electronica with more of a rock element. "Tired of the Show" brings this to the forefront particularly -- lots of guitar strumming and glam attitude -- while "Waiting for You" edges into electroclash territory but transitions halfway into more of a deep house tip. The rock energy of those tracks make for an jarring contrast to the more delicate tracks elsewhere: the ambient "As Seen from Space" or the dreamy "Breakfast at 80,000 ft." "The Handbrake" manages to blend the two sides of this album together, but I´d still take Rachel Foster´s welcome return with the delicate "Stay Out All Night." And it really wouldn´t be Bent without a reimagining of a bizarre little song: here, Anne Murray´s "Just Bidin´ My Time" becomes the peppy "Leavin´ Me." A curious little album: certainly not the Bent boys´ best work, but not without considerable charm, either.
