The Midnight Ball
Memoria are an Australian metal band combining influences from classical guitar, flamenco and even black metal. The debut album, recorded throughout 2006 by the band in Dead By Dawn Studios, also features hundreds of field recordings meshed together to form atmospheric soundscapes. …here’s what some others have said… “When you think of acoustic guitar the last thing that pops into your mind is Metal, but that’s exactly Western Australian act Memoria have done. Creating a Metal so heavy and down right frightening that it makes your hair’s stand on end. Titled The Midnight Ball, this 6 track disc is black and macabre, combining Classical and Spanish guitaring and twisting it into a dark vortex that conjures up spirits in black. This would be a totally original album if it were not for the obvious Opeth overtones. But Memoria take it way further than Opeth have, making The Midnight Ball a remarkable album that just has to be heard to be believed, as nothing I could possibly say can impart the brilliance of The Midnight Ball. This could even be the first acoustic BlackMetal album ever! Best album of ’07 so far” (Asher Earache – Hard and Heavy Magazine) "It’s sort of like the bastard lovechild of Robert Rodriguez’s El Mariachi and F.W Mernau’s Nosferatu in musical form"(Nadia Bailey – PBS 106.7 FM MELBOURNE)
